How to enable two factor authentication

Cryptohopper offers the ability to secure your account with two factor authentication (2FA). Instead of only logging in with your username and password you will also need to enter a secret code from your 2FA application everytime you log in.

We offer 2FA with the following services: Google Authenticator and Yubikey. In this tutorial we will use Google Authenticator for two factor authenticating.

Download Google Authenticator

Download the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device:

Install the application on your device and when you're ready go the next step.

Enable 2FA on your Cryptohopper account

  1. Log in to your account and go to your User Profile. Scroll down and select Google Authenticator in the select box underneath Two Factor Authentication.
  2. Scan the QR code with the Google Authenticator app
  3. Enter the security code given by Google Authenticator
  4. Click Save.

Emergency passwords

After enabling 2FA the user profile page displays a few emergency one time passwords which you can use whenever you lost your 2FA device. Print out these passwords and save them in a secure spot. These passwords will be immediately destroyed after use.
